When it comes to durability, more specifically more durable garments, the choice of material is a very important factor. Different materials and techniques contribute to a greater or lesser impact on the environment. Choosing recycled materials contributes to a circular cycle where the materials are given new life in the form of new products, instead of ending up in the landfill, in nature or in the sea.
All of our children's swim trunks and the vast majority of our men's swim shorts range are made from 100% recycled polyester.
Recycled polyester
By manufacturing swimwear from recycled PET bottles, we keep plastic out of landfills and from being littered in nature and oceans. Instead, we give them new life in new products that you can use for a long time.
There are even more benefits to recycled polyester – here are a few:
Less water and up to 50% less energy is used in production
Produces approximately 30% less Co2 compared to new polyester
Recycled polyester has many uses, it is used in everything from car tire reinforcements to clothing and interior decoration
REPREVE® Our Ocean™
REPREVE® Our Ocean™ is used for many of our patterned swim shorts. REPREVE® Our Ocean™ is a premium collection of fiber and resin sourced from bottles with a high risk of ending up in the ocean. REPREVE® is the world's leading brand for recycled performance fiber.
To produce these fibers, plastics with a high risk of entering the sea are collected in developing countries or areas that lack formal waste or recycling systems.
Community collection is followed by bottle certification through an independent third-party organization. The bottles then go through the REPREVE® recycling process and finally receive what is known as U Trust™ FiberPrint trace technology.
REPREVE® thus takes plastic bottles and turns them into certified, traceable, high-quality yarn.
