At Björn Borg, our environmental work starts when we choose which material a garment is made from – and it doesn't stop until it reaches your door. Sustainability is part of every decision we make, with ambitious goals and a long-term commitment to improving, year after year.
Our impact on the environment
The textile industry is one of the world's most climate-impacting industries. We can't turn a blind eye to that.
The largest part of our emissions occur outside our own walls – along the journey a garment takes from raw material to finished product. That is why we focus so hard on material choices, how our factories produce, and how our products are transported.
Björn Borg has committed to reducing total emissions by 50% by 2030, in line with the Paris Agreement.
We've made strong progress in our own operations, and our sewing suppliers are rapidly transitioning to renewable electricity.
The greater challenge, and our biggest focus, is reducing emissions throughout the full production chain.
Important memberships
Björn Borg is also a member of STICA, the Scandinavian Textile Initiative for Climate Action, link, a network of more than 50 Nordic textile companies working together to reduce the industry’s emissions in line with the Paris Agreement.

Preferred materials
Water
Producing a kilo of cotton requires up to 10,000 litres of water. Much of our production takes place in water-scarce regions, which makes this a priority.
We work with two water-saving dyeing techniques – Clean Color and High IQ® Lasting Colour Eco – that significantly reduce water and energy use in the dyeing process.
Across our range you'll find many garments made from organic cotton, which significantly reduces water use compared to conventional cotton farming.
We've also started introducing recycled cotton into our collections.
We partner with factories that treat and recirculate their process water – our largest supplier in Bangladesh, for example, runs a closed-loop system where treated water is reused in production.
Chemicals - No hazardous substances in garments or production
Manufacturing and dyeing fabric requires chemicals – that's the reality. But it's an area where we have zero tolerance for shortcuts.
Björn Borg has a strict chemical policy with clear bans that apply to all suppliers.
We follow the European Union’s chemical regulations REACH and enforce a ban for so-called Substances of Very High Concern, a type of grey-zone list over substances that are permitted by law but suspected of being harmful.
Independent chemical tests are carried out twice a year by an external laboratory, covering garments, shoes and packaging.
All suppliers must be able to document the chemicals they use.
Energy & climate emissions
Manufacturing a garment requires energy, to spin yarn, weave fabric, sew parts together, print patterns and much more.
The more of that energy that comes from renewable sources, the lower the climate impact.
In our sewing factories, 85% of production is now powered by renewable electricity, up dramatically from 11% the year before. (2025 vs 2024)
All our sewing suppliers are part of our joint plan for transitioning to renewable energy, and we work closely with each factory to find solutions that fit their local conditions – whether that's rooftop solar, certified renewable electricity or connecting to local renewable grids.
In our own offices, stores and warehouses, we have reduced emissions by 73% since 2020 – reaching our own 2030 target five years early.
Transport and logistics - From factory to your door
We never schedule air freight for incoming deliveries. Exceptions require management approval.
From 2026, we use DHL GoGreen for all air freight, and we're actively working to reduce urgent transports through better production planning and expanded use of digital samples.
We don't discard unsold garments. Products not sold through regular channels go to outlet or sample sales.
When it comes to packaging: all cardboard is FSC-certified and our goal is for all plastic in our packaging to come from recycled sources by 2030.
Our warehouse carton folding machine adapts packaging size to each shipment – less material, less air, more efficient transport.
